Hey everyone
Wow! I did not realize it was July 4th. Yay USA!
Today we walked from the house to the beach at the bottom of the hillside. There is this stone path that winds from the top (the town) all the way to the bottom. We are at the top. It was a long hike back. When we went down the kids pointed out the church that their parents got married in. On our way back it happened to be open and a sign said a whole bunch of stuff in Italian and Michelangelo. I went to investigate and there was a painting inside by Michelangelo. There is a picture at the bottom. It is so amazing that you can just walk around and find frescos by these artists everywhere.
When we were swimming I saw a sea anemone that was red. When I pointed it out to the kids they said it is called a pomodora del mare (tomato of the sea). We went swimming yesterday and there was water aerobics in the ocean. It brought me back to the good old days at the pool. They even played songs from Grease.
Oh, good news! I found my memory card! It was in my computer. The only problem is the pictures I took on my camera won’t go to the memory card and I don’t have the cord to the computer. Good news, I took new pictures of the town tonight so you can see it. Well, one picture because I wasn’t there for a long time.
Friday
Today we went on the boat. Again, it was beautiful. We snorkeled at a wreck and there were all kinds of fish that would come right up to us and swim around us. I got such a bad sunburn but I think (that might be wishful thinking) that it will fade into a tan. I will take pictures for you tomorrow. We would be going along and there would be a castle or a fort or a mine. It is an unbelievable place.
I was thinking and I realized that aside from being in this beautiful place and able to appreciate new things, that God is doing new things in my life. I will also tell you about that. I have some free time in the morning before the kids wake up and I have been really impressed upon to read my Bible. I am ecstatic about that because I have been praying for God to give me the desire for His word. It seems like I just can’t get enough of it. It is nice for me to know that I am taken care of even when I am so far away from the people that care for me. I know Christ will never leave me.
I hope you all are doing well. Keep up the emails telling me how it is back at home.

Love you,

Nicole

Top: swimming area. The caves are man made. They were put there to hide soldiers in WWII who were protecting the coast from invasion. Tomato of the sea. That is just a random shot of the swimming area. There was coral all around it so it was hard to get to that spot. I commemorated it with a picture.

That's me! There is the organ in the church. It was impressive. There is a crab we found in a tidal pool.

A sideways picture of the ceiling. It would take a whole lot to fix that picture now. The middle picture is famous! The last picture is of Capoliveri which is the town where we are. It is beautiful. I haven't been there in the day time so no pictures of that yet.

Hey everyone, Let’s see....I went waterskiing this week. Thanks to grandpa for teaching me how to slalom. It is more difficult in the ocean than the nice flat lake and I had to drop a ski because the boat wasn’t powerful enough to haul my big butt out of the water on one ski. Nevertheless, I had a fun time and made it before I did a spectacular flip/ nose-dive. I forgot how sore it makes you the next day and I couldn’t make a fist because I used all of those wrist muscles to pull myself out of the water. It was so much fun. Yesterday some friends of the family from NY came. We spent the day on the boat I got to spend some time talking with people who spoke English. The family was so nice I we had a lot of fun swimming and bouncing on the waves. They pointed out something that I never noticed about Elba. There are no clouds here. It never rains because it is the summer time (that isn’t weird) but I realized that it is kind of a strange thing that I could never quite pu...

Leaving Milan-Sept 10, 2009

Ciao! Last night we spent the night at Aviano airbase in Aviano, Italy. On the way there we were welcomed, several times, by the city of Porcia. For those of you who have never had the privilege of visiting Porcia, let me outline the town for you. When you get off the autostrada (highway) there are a lot of crops growing in fields. The Gossip Bar is lit up in neon lights and seemed to be a popular place. If you pass some houses you will come to a little town of about one streetlight. There is what looks like a tractor dealership and a restaurant. End of Porcia. We were honored to drive through the town on several occasions, entering from many different angles, as we followed the Italian directions to the airbase procured from an array of people whom we stopped to ask directions. Well, we finally made it to the airbase and the view was beautiful! It is nice and flat and then randomly there were just these mountains that appeared against one side of the base. I love how the mountains jus...
